Baker City Quilt Show 25th Anniversary

I'll try not to do a lot of chatting,
but will share photos.
This one was just on display as
it was not finished.
Jes Berry made this beautiful applique.
He was last year's featured quilter.

 This was just so striking.
 Danielle made this one.
She does our machine quilting.
She is so very talented.

 Virginia's Baltimore. She likes purple:)
My mom mad this one &
I think she is going to sell it.
(She has made 17 quilts since January~
she couldn't go outside due to some skin issues.)

 When we were helping 'tear-down,'
I saw the gal that made this one.
I said, "Oh, you made the quilt with the
embroidery and little circles right?"
She got a panicked look on her face
and said, "Yes, what happened to it?"
I told her nothing; I was going to compliment her
but didn't mean to give a compliment
in the form of a heart attack.
We both had a little laugh.
The silver was the challenge fabric this year.
I just love those puffy skirts.
I took this one just for Mr. LB.
I might have to make this one.
This was one of two judges choice quilts.
The other is just to the left (didn't get a pix.)
Just some of the guild's block of the months.
Talk about a group of talented women!
This was just too sweet not to photograph.
 I know it's not a new pattern,
but I just love this one.
There were a lot of king and California king sized quilts this year.
 This was just for display.
They had a game this year for their 25th anniversary.
There were 15 silver stars
pinned on quilts throughout the show.
We were to write the 15 quilt numbers
on a piece of paper with our name and ph. #
and they drew a name from those who
had all 15 properly identified.
It was harder than you would think
when you are looking at the quilts.
(See the lavender girl)
My mom made this one too.
Just cute.
There were so many beautiful quilts.
The quality this year was even better than last year.
These gals always do a fabulous job.
There were 171 quilts &
several of those were great big.

Hope you enjoyed the mini version of the show.

Until next time,

My Christmas Quilt

Each year for the past several, December means something very special to me, that is in addition to the regular specials. The beginning of December, I quietly go to my room and slowly open the lid to my hope chest at the foot of my bed.  I peer in and my eyes sparkle and my heart does a little leap in my chest. I set aside one then another, then I see it-
My Christmas quilt, folded so neatly (a little differently each year so it doesn't get stress folds.)  I take it out of the trunk an set it on the bed while I replace the others I removed.  Only very special quilts go in this chest.  I gently unfold the quilt and position it on the bed accordingly.

There is a church in the middle of the quilt with an embroidered garland.
To each side of the church is a forest scene with snowmen and women and beneath a row of houses.  A little toy drum, rocking horse, airplane and other toys are just above the train hauling even more toys.
At the foot and on the sides are vines of poinsettias and pine cones.
 Each corner has a wreath.
Above the church, are red-headed angels.  I love them.  You don't often see angels with red hair.
And a row of bells above the angels.
You're going to love this...

Across the pillows are Santa in his sleigh and his nine reindeer - even has Rudolph leading the team.
There are some pieced sections, but it is primarily needle-turned applique.  There are bells on the harnesses of the reindeer, buttons for holly berries, all the toys are appliqued as well as the poinsettias and pine cones.  There are embroidered embellishments throughout as well.  I do not take credit for this lovely work of art.  I actually won it at the Baker City Quilt Show several years ago.  It was the end of July & I was asked, "You couldn't win an air conditioner?"  I was thrilled to say the least.  This is such a wonderful example of the talent that sweet group of gals possess.  I admire them and am eternally grateful.  The beginning of January, I will gently refold it, place it back in the chest, and look forward to next December.
Until next time,

Baker City Quilt Show

I'm Baaack.  Just have to say it that way to wig you out a little:)  Baker was a blast as usual.  We arrived Friday morning and didn't even put our bags in the room.  We headed straight to the quilt show.  Many beautiful quilts.  First, we began by purchasing raffle tickets for the work of art behind us.  You can't really see the appliqued center, and this isn't the best picture of us, but it is the only one with all of us.  Oh well, we never claimed to be all together all together.  The two gals with name tags are Grace  & Virginia.  Both have been featured quilters and are highly deserving - very talented ladies.  The quality at this show is always remarkable and this year was no exception.  I was a little surprised at the number of "simple" designs this year.  It seems to go in waves.  I have been there when the complexity of nearly every quilt was over the top.
This is one of the quilts I voted for.  The applique would 'knock your socks off' so to speak.  Aaaand, the quilting truly enhanced it.  The quilt that received peoples choice was a different quilt made by the same maker. (Inez Lange)  Wow!
This years featured quilter was Jess Berry.  He does fabulous work.  Mostly applique with piecing as accents and all hand quilted.  I adored the two little quilts with urns above.  He photographed then printed on fabric a couple from his collection.  They were hanging a little high, and I am somewhat vertically challenged so the view is not straight at them.
And I just thought this one was cute and merry.  What I didn't get a picture of was my own quilt - guess I thought I could look at it any ol' time.  I will have to get the camera out.  Also, a picture worth looking at was the trunk of the car.  Not another fat quarter would have fit, and that's with the quilts in the back seat.  Our bounty was plenty:)
I hope you are having a beautiful day.
