Barn Quilt Block

They might be common in the mid-west,
but this is only the second one I've spotted out here.
After I spotted this one,
I kept saying to Mr. LB, "That barn would be good.  Say,
look at that barn.  It has a nice big wall."
We were headed toward the Eagle Caps.
You can get a little better idea of the view in this picture.
The hay meadows looked fabulous.
I am happy for the ranchers.
If it's as dry as predicted, maybe they will have enough
not only for their own stock, but to
sell a little extra.

And there by the fire
while the snow outside whirled and danced,
while the woodwinds played their song,
and while onlookers watched,
she sat.
She sat, though hands not idle~
As the old adage goes.
Dreaming of warmth
and facing the sun with closed eyes
in order to better hear
the sound of spring,
in order to better smell
the buds unfurl,
in order to bask
in all that's joyous,
she dreams, mind's not idle either~
And here
she comes to an end
and a beginning.

Finished another block of the wool crazy quilt.
On to the next.

Making Progress

Just thought I would share~
I was looking at my last few posts
and thought I had better show you,
I really do stitch once in a while.
I showed the beginnings here.
Tomorrow, I am going to get boarders and backing
fabric so I can finish it up.  So far,
I'm liking it.  I think the boarders will help
tone down the business a little.
It will have a darker boarder & binding.

I am also working on the quilt label for my
Christmas quilt.  The top was ready before
Christmas, but I didn't have the back ready.
I hand stitch my labels so it takes
a little time - not enough to be a
real excuse, but I'm using it as one for now:)

Scrappy Tumbling Block

Good Morning to All.
I do hope everybody had a wonderful Christmas full of love and laughter.
With four days off, I had plenty to do, but wasn't going to get away without spending just a little time in the fun room.  This is what's on my design wall at the moment.

Not the best pix - sorry
Again, most of the darks are scraps from my Cathedral Window quilt, which if you are keeping track, I now have 306 of the 396 blocks ironed into shape.
I did supplement it with a few others for a little more of a scrappy look.  Then I had fun picking out the creams.  I was surprised at how difficult it was to find a true cream color and not a greyish off-white. One thing I discovered is that it is a bit difficult to figure out just what size the finished quilt will be upon finishing it.  I usually do my math before I begin cutting.

I did attempt and came up with a figure - we'll see how close I came:)
I just started cutting the little trapezoids.  The finished 'trap' is 3 inches top to bottom.  I cut about 540 of them and figured I can cut more if needed.  Also, I will be putting a brown boarder around it so it will be a little larger due to that.

I began sewing my lights to darks and of course, had to set a few up on the wall to see.  I think it will be one of those comfy looking quilts that makes me want to curl up with a cup of tea and take a nap by the fire.  I am so anxious to keep going on it and see just how it turns out.
Have a beautiful three day work week and keep stitchin'.
Until next time,
